Okay maybe I'm exaggerating about the number of times Sarah Palin has come off as an idiot. Or am I?
So yesterday Sarah Palin went on Fox News and defended her statement about Paul Revere. Now you have to admire Fox News, who pay Palin as a "contributor". Not only do they tell her outright she got it wrong, but they seem to pay her because she's a sideshow act. 'Come one, come all and poke a stick at the moron. Here - we'll show you how it's done.'
So Sarah tries to defend herself.

“You know what? I didn’t mess up about Paul Revere,’’ said Palin. “Part of his ride was to warn the British that we’re already there. That, hey, you’re not going to succeed. You’re not going to take American arms.’’
So imagine this. You work for Sarah Palin and realise that not because some reporter was using what Palin calls "gotcha type questions" (we'll get to that later), but because Palin herself started talking about Paul Revere and "where he hung out as a teenager" and then even though she knew she didn't have the story right, kept foaming at the mouth - that suddenly you need to find some way for her to defend her comments later.
You, as a paid employee of the Palin campaign then need to find some slightly obscure factoid to save face and so you scour American history books. It takes you a couple of days. Then you write up this little soundbyte for the aspiring GOP candidate.
Yet again what Palin says isn't true, which is pretty sad given that she had a four day weekend to find something a lot better than what she came up with. Like I said in my previous post, I'm not a professor of American history, but here's a quote from someone who is courtesy of the Boston Globe.

“Here is what Paul Revere did. He warned the Americans that the British were coming . . . and they were going to try take our arms and we got to make sure that we were protecting ourselves and shoring up all of ammunitions and our firearms so that they couldn’t take it,’’ Palin said yesterday. “But remember that the British had already been there, many soldiers for seven years in that area. And part of Paul Revere’s ride — and it wasn’t just one ride — he was a courier, he was a messenger. Part of his ride was to warn the British that we’re already there. . . . You are not going to beat our own well-armed persons, individual, private militia that we have. He did warn the British.’’

Brendan McConville, professor of history at Boston University, said yesterday that — contrary to what Palin seemed to suggest — the intent of Paul Revere’s ride was to warn the Concord area that the British were coming to seize their munitions cache, and to warn Revolutionary leaders Samuel Adams and John Hancock that they faced arrest.
“His intent was to mobilize the countryside,’’ McConville said. “His intent was to warn them.’’
However, McConville said that while Revere wasn’t looking to attract British attention as he rode, after he was captured he did give a warning to the British soldiers, telling them that American patriots were ready to take them on.
McConville said that while some of what Palin said is historically accurate, her wording is misleading. “I would describe her as lucky in her history as opposed to knowledgeable in her history,’’ he said.
The truth is Sarah Palin should no longer be a concern. Like a reality television star, Palin is well aware that once she doesn't win the GOP nomination (which is in my opinion highly unlikely) her time in the spotlight is over and with her recent stunt of upstaging Romney in New Hampshire, only to be made a laughing stock shortly thereafter couldn't have gone over well with the Republican camp .
The sad part is that ignorance has always been Palin's defense. Back to what Palin calls "gotcha type questions". What is a "gotcha type question" is anything you ask Palin and she instead of just keeping her trap shut decides to invent a story about and then gets mocked for later is a "gotcha type question". I'd like to see some student appeal to their teacher with such an argument. What if one was pulled over for drunk driving and asked by a police officer if they had consumed one too many alcoholic beverages? Would you drive away and then show up at the police station later to inform the police that because they asked you a "gotcha type question" that you're still in the right? Apparently in Ms. Palin's world that would be completely acceptable.
It's no mystery why Palin's biggest supporters are amongst the least educated people in America. She talks in a language for those people specifically. She doesn't point out the obvious correlation between low education levels and poverty or unemployment or welfare benefit abuse, or obseity or health problems or alcoholism or child abuse. But the joke might be on Palin in the long run as her "demographic" is less likely to go to the polls and vote.
Now I'm not trying to say you need to have a doctorate in astrophysics to be below the poverty line (which means you earn less than $10,000 if you're single of $21,000 for a family of four) or that they're aren't plenty of people who fall on hard times and need the government's help the problem is that same demographic is obviously the same demographic Republicans like Sarah Palin could really give a fuck about.
You don't need to be a rocket scientist to be thin, healthy, and not beat your kids but you also don't need to be a rocket scientist to see that Republicans only care about the rich and how rich they get in the process of caring for the rich people and rich companies in America. Why do you think Palin's running for President? Even if she doesn't get the GOP nomination (and I hope she doesn't), she'll still get her money and avoid becoming a member of her own political demographic.
I'm waiting to see how stupid the Republican party is in the long run. Will they give Sarah Palin another shot to put into her moose hunting rifle? If her hunting episode on her reality show in any indication, they better have a lot of ammunition. Or maybe they're storing it to warn the British they're not going to take our arms and Palin will be shit out of luck.
I've scoured YouTube for a clip of Sarah's interview last night, but it's not up yet. You can watch Palin on Fox here. Just please keep in mind that Sarah Palin doesn't give a fuck about you or me or anyone except Sarah Palin.
