The Process

At the moment I'm capturing my words in every possible medium.

For example I:

record my thoughts on my iPod with voice recorder
record my thoughts on my Nokia N96 when I forgot the little mic for my iPod
in little unlined Moleskin paperbound notebooks
in overly large lined Moleskin leatherbound notebooks
in various little journals given to me by friends
in cheap little notebooks I buy at grocery stores when I've forgotten to bring anything
on napkins
on paper dinner placemats
on the blank insert pages in the front and back of novels I carry around with me
on the margins of novels I carry around with me
on the inside of torn up cigarette packs
on my hands
on my thigh in black eyeliner
in MS Word
in Notepad
on blogs
online

I have lots of what I call "snippets". A couple of sentences that came to my head that make no fucking sense whatsoever, but I like it and write it down to save into something else.

I am just starting. I haven't sat down and wrote even a short story in AGES. The snippets are all I get right now. Like flashbacks. Like glimpses of memories I can't quite make out yet. So I write down everything. I try to save things up in my head in case one day I need a great line for an otherwise mediocre paragraph.

Right now I don't know if I know anything about dialogue, character development, plot, sub-plot...I could lose my frikkin' mind trying to think about all the technicalities. Or I could just write as it comes, like Hemmingway had his ritual every day. I just write and write.

And curse amazon for slow delivery and for great books that are no longer in print so I have to order them from the Everglades and wipe the damp of the bayou off them when they get to my front door.
