A friend of mine in Barcelona sent me this link via Facebook: http://www.cronica.cat/noticia/Els_indignats_convoquen_una_concentracio_avui_al_vespre_a_Placa_Catalunya
If you don't read Spanish (or Catalan, which I think this link is in) - the Spanish people are taking to the streets for changes that are needed in Spain, but in many EU countries, France included.
From my friend:
"People are tired of politicians that do not solve the real problems of the country..."
"They are cutting salaries, economic help, job positions, but the economy is not recovering and some keep making lots of money while the country is strugeling... spanierds are asking for politians to take more competent decisions..."
"We’re asking for changes that are needed in many European countries, like ending corruption and making politicians accountable, so borders won’t stop this from spreading..."
After the riots around Europe in 2010, including general strikes taught us anything it is that the people, all of us, have a civic responsibility to support strikers and those groups which are fighting for things that benefit all of us. Despite the problems the strikes caused us here in France, I supported the strikes because it wasn't just about shorter work hours, it was about the government's responsibility to its people.
Above is a video of the national strikes that took place last June in France.
